Diabetes Education

As a London Diabetes patient you will be given the support and tools to educate yourself about how to self manage your condition. Your continuous education can happen in three ways:

1 - One to one sessions with the Senior Diabetes Nurse Educator

You will learn how your diabetes care filts into your day to day lifestyle, how treatments affect you, what options you have, and how to cope with the complexities of this condition.

2 - Diabetes nutrition and weight management with our Senior Clinical Nutritionist

You are encouraged to attend regular sessions with our nutritionist to monitor your weight, body comporision changes and dietary intake.

Type 1 patients will focus on different types and sources of carbohydrates, lower GI principales, suitable snacks, the treatments of hypoglycaemia and carbohydrate counting.

Type 2 patients will focus on weight loss, balanced/healthy eatring, portion control, lower GI eating, fat reduction adn beneficial types of fats as well as increasing physical activity levels.

3 - Diabetes education evening group sessions

These monthly evenign sessions take place after work adn are well attended by our existing London Diabetes patients and their family members. They cover a wide variety of diabetes and nutrition related topics and give you the opportunity to meet with other patients, share experiences and help solve issues linked with your diabetes.
