What Conditions Will Benefit

What Conditions Will Benefit seeing an exercise physiologist?

Type 1 and 2 Diabetes

Research shows that stabilization of blood glucose through exercise is related to exercise intensity rather than duration or type. Regular physical activity, in conjunction with proper diet and medication management, will normalize blood glucose.

Osteoporosis

Specific proprioception and lower body strengthening can improve balance and reduce risk of falls leading to osteoporotic fractures. Muscle strengthening surrounding weak bones can provide improved support for the joints and improve mobility.

Chronic Pain

Weakness or tightness in certain musculature can cause chronic pain as compensatory adjustments in the muscle tissue occur. Most often seen in low back pain, proper exercise can reduce pain and alleviate postural weakness or abnormalities.

Heart Disease

Our in house stress testing can diagnose an unhealthy heart. From there, we can design exercise for you that focuses on improving cardiovascular strength and weight loss  with minimum health risks.

Obesity and Others

Increasing muscular strength increases resting metabolic rate, which means increased energy burnt at rest. Combining this with high intensity aerobic activity promotes weight loss, and also a reduction in blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

 Depression

Regular physical activity improves self-confidence and self-worth. This is done through increased endorphin production following exercise, as well as achieving physical goals and improved body image.

 Stroke

Improving mobility, movement and balance are of highest importance for recovery. Physical activity will also improve cardiovascular fitness and feeling of wellbeing following a stroke.

Asthma

Increasing cardiovascular function and fitness, along with specific breathing exercises can improve lung function and functional capacity. Research shows that regular aerobic activity reduces the bodies reliance on oxygen.
